GC project managers, engineering firms, and other steel fabrication companies across the Southeast bring their work to PEC when they need a shop that can move on schedule, hold AWS tolerances, and handle heavy steel. Our 70,000 square foot facility in Covington, GA handles structural steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, plate work, pipe supports, and equipment skids for industrial projects across Georgia and the Southeast.
The fab shop is built for output. A Python X CNC plasma table runs two shifts on detailing and plate work when needed. An Amada press brake handles heavy plate forming. AWS-certified welders and a full fitting bay take assemblies through to weld-out.
Whether you need a 50-ton miscellaneous metals package or a 1,000-ton structural job, you work with the same PEC project team from quote through delivery. One shop, one project manager, one schedule.

Most of PEC’s steel fabrication work falls into five categories. Each is handled by the same crew, in the same shop, with the same project manager keeping the schedule.
1
Beam fabrication, column work, base plates, connection plates, and erection-ready assemblies for industrial buildings, mezzanines, and process structures. Structural steel fabrication is the bulk of the shop’s work. Ties into PEC’s structural steel division for projects that need both shop fabrication and on-site erection.
2
Stair stringers, handrail, ladders, platforms, bollards, equipment guarding, gratings, and custom fittings. Misc metals is often the last package on a project, and the schedule pressure is real. The shop runs miscellaneous metals work alongside structural fabrication so one PEC project manager keeps both packages moving.
3
Plate fabrication on the Python X CNC for tank components, gussets, base plates, brackets, and other custom plate assemblies. One-off custom steel fabrication and repeat production runs both go through the same crew. Pairs with PEC’s custom metal fabrication practice for jobs that cross shop work and field installation.
4
Trapeze hangers, support frames, sliding supports, anchor blocks, and engineered pipe supports for process piping runs. Pipe supports show up most on food and beverage, bio-science, and process projects, where PEC’s process piping team can deliver the support package and the piping run together.
5
Skid-mounted packages for process and utility equipment, including pump skids, filter packages, valve manifolds, and packaged process equipment. Equipment skids are typically built to engineered drawings or developed alongside the customer’s engineering team.

The shop is set up for heavy industrial steel work, not light fabrication. Plate processing runs through a Python X CNC plasma table, on a two-shift schedule when the workload calls for it. That keeps detailing throughput high enough to feed the fitting and welding bays so plate cutting does not become the bottleneck on a tight job.
An Amada press brake handles heavy plate bending for skid bases, custom panels, equipment housings, and structural components. The fitting bay carries assembly work through to weld-out, and our AWS-certified welders run the structural and miscellaneous metals welding processes that show up on heavy industrial steel work. Material handling, paint, and shipping out of the bay round out the flow.
The result is a steel fab shop sized and staffed for medium-to-heavy structural and miscellaneous metals work, with the equipment and certifications to hit AWS D1.1 quality on every job.

PEC’s steel fabrication work meets AWS D1.1 structural welding requirements as the default standard. Our welders are AWS-certified for the processes they run, and welder continuity is tracked through the shop’s quality program so the certifications stay current.
Quality documentation matches what GC PMs and engineering firms need for bid packages and submittals: weld procedure specifications, procedure qualification records, welder performance qualification records, and material traceability where the project calls for it. Mill certs are pulled and retained with the job file. Inspection coordination is handled in-house when a project calls for NDE, or with the third-party inspection agency the project specifies.
For projects that need higher standards beyond AWS D1.1, like pressure-rated work or unusual material handling, the scope conversation starts before quoting so the right procedures are written in from the start.

Steel fabrication jobs land in a wide range of sizes, and the shop’s setup handles work at either end. Small miscellaneous metals packages might be 20 to 50 tons. A typical structural job for a manufacturing plant or data center build might fall in the 200 to 500 ton range. The largest jobs PEC has run come in over 1,000 tons.
A representative example on the larger end: a 1,000-ton structural steel fabrication job for United Defense. Same shop, same project management, same AWS-certified weld procedures that smaller jobs use. The scale changes the staging and schedule planning, but the fabrication process itself is the same as a 100-ton job.

PEC fabricates steel for industries across the Southeast:
Each industry has its own documentation and material expectations. The benefit of one PEC shop is that those nuances stay with the same project team from quote through delivery.

Whether your project is a 50-ton miscellaneous metals package, a 500-ton structural fab job, or an overflow capacity request from a steel fabricator at capacity, the next step is the same: a conversation with our team about scope, schedule, and what you have in hand from engineering.
